As you wander through the city center, you will come across some fascinating galleries that can take you back in time. These are true covered salons, running alongside our squares—our open-air salons—and telling the story of an elegant, aristocratic, and upper-bourgeois Turin.

There are three galleries in the city center:

Galleria Subalpina connects Piazza Castello with Piazza Carlo Alberto and was built by the Banca dell’Industria Subalpina, from which it takes its name. Its architecture highlights the use of iron and glass and is eclectic in style, with some Art Nouveau elements. Opened in December 1874, the gallery houses the historic Baratti & Milano café as well as the former theatre that later became Cinema Romano.

Galleria San Federico dates back to the 1930s and is linked to the redevelopment of Via Roma. This covered space hosted offices, warehouses, shops, and a cinema which, at the time, was the largest in Turin with 1,573 seats.

Galleria Umberto I connects Via della Basilica with Piazza della Repubblica. It was inaugurated in 1890 and is 100 meters long.
